Magic Moments 1

Magic Moments

There have been many productions I have been involved in where scenes have been shot that simply couldn’t be recreated – where wonderful things have happened by accident, and you just had to be there.

I always remember a wonderful scene in Pasty Faces where the cameras were filming a line of weapons, side-on and in slow motion. As the guns were being fired, one of the ejected cartridges flew towards a camera, and went straight “down the lens” into the matt box (the cover which shields the lens, usually from unwanted light).

The cartridge bounced around inside the box, and created a serendipitous happenstance that we couldn’t have created again if we’d tried all day! I am happy to say that this “effect” was used in the final cut… but if you blink you’ll miss it.
